The award winning Melbourn Magazine was first issued in January 1995 and produced quarterly thereafter. It began as four sheets of A4 paper, stapled and was available on a ‘pick-up’ basis as distribution was, at the time, difficult, So local residents could collect a copy from the local Post Office. Today, it has developed into a glossy looking 64 page, 4-colour, award-winning publication and is still produced entirely by volunteers.
The running of the magazine has a finely honed schedule in which many residents play an important part. From the editing of news articles, the organisation of advertising, the production – everything is timetabled for smooth running. As a result, all householders in the village receive the non-profit-making publication free, delivered to their door, quarterly.
Many people do have the magazine posted to them at a small cost if they have ties with the village, but now it can be read from anywhere in the world – via this website.
The publication of the magazine is made possible by the substantial sponsorship (for which we are extremely grateful) of The Technology Partnership, situated in the Science Park in Melbourn and also the revenue from advertisers. It is a source of information of local resources, forthcoming events, news articles, police reports concerning matters in the area, neighbourhood watch and provides a quarterly village diary. Local interviews are often featured, articles from local clubs organisations and of course, local residents. It is there for people to have their say about village matters.
If you have any comments or news articles you would like to be included in the magazine please email: mag@melbourn·org·uk or telephone 01763 261144.
